Policy Changes for 2025

All changes go into effect January 1, 2025

General:

All dogs must be current on Rabies, Distemper and Bordetella vaccines and must remain current throughout their stay. Vaccine records must be provided from a licensed veterinarian.

All dogs must be flea/tick and parasite free and current on flea/heartworm prevention. If Colonial Canine staff notices fleas on your dog, a flea bath will be given at the owners expense. If staff notices excessive fleas or suspects your dog may have worms or any other parasite, you may be asked to pick up your dog.

All owners must fill out a copy of our Colonial Canine paperwork packet. This includes important information about you and your dog as well as a medical waiver allowing us to administer medications when needed and seek veterinary care if necessary. These forms are turned in along with your vaccine records and kept in a folder for your pet for 1 year.

Daycare:

Daycare must be booked at least 24 hours in advance if you do not already have a standing weekly schedule.

We have limited space for daycare and there may be days that we are full and cannot accept your dog. We keep this limit to assure proper care and supervision to each and every dog.

Daycare drop off hours are 7am - 9:30am (We will not accept drop offs for daycare past 9:30am)

Daycare pick up hours are 4pm - 6pm (Any pick ups before 4pm MUST be approved ahead of time)

Daycare may be paid by the day or by purchasing one of our Daycare Packages at a discounted rate. Daycare packages over 8 days can also be used as credit for boarding if necessary.

Any male over 2 years of age MUST be neutered to attend daycare.

Females in heat/recently in heat will not be allowed to attend daycare until at least 2 weeks after the end of their heat cycle.

We will not accept dogs that are aggressive toward humans or other dogs for daycare.

If your dog has food allergies, we ask that you bring some treats that they are allowed to have from home so that they can also get treats during break times. We are happy to store these in a container with your dogs name on it if you would like to leave some here.

If your dog is showing any signs of illness (lethargic, vomiting, diarrhea, coughing etc). Please do not bring your dog to daycare until they are cleared by a vet. If our staff notices any of these symptoms, you may be asked to pick your dog up and take them home.

Meals for Daycare:

Dogs who come in for daycare that are older than 8 months and do not have medical issues requiring them to eat throughout the day will not be given food during their daycare visit. This is a policy made due to feeding times and procedures taking away from their daycare experiences and limiting the time they get to socialize and play while here. As the procedures for feeding during the day require us to put them away 30-45 minutes before feeding them, for them to calm down enough to eat. And then having to keep them put away up to an hour after eating, to let them have time to digest their food. Those procedures are used to help prevent vomiting due to being worked up and being overly excited from playing.

Boarding:

Boarding reservations must be made a minimum of 24 hours in advance, during our peak season and Holidays we recommend booking as soon as possible.

All boarding reservations will be required to place a 25% deposit to hold the space. This deposit is refundable if the reservation is cancelled 7 days or more before the drop off date.

All boarding reservations during Peak Season (May 1 – Sept. 1) or over a Holiday (Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years) will require a 50% deposit, refundable if cancelled 14 days or more before your drop off date.

The remainder of any boarding balance will be due at the time of drop off.

We will board unfixed males, but they may not be allowed in group play if they are over the age of 2 or show signs of behavior issues. We will not house 2 unfixed dogs in the same kennel.

If your dog is labeled “Management Handling Only” due to aggressive behavior, there will be a $10 per night safety fee added to their stay. This includes dogs that require more than one person to handle safely or dogs who can only be handled safely by a specific person.

Dogs from the same household may be boarded together. If there is a history of aggression or dogs need to be separated to be fed, a separate kennel must be reserved for each dog. We will not board unfixed dogs together.

For boarding, we ask that you bring enough food for their stay. If your dog is staying long term, large bags of food are fine. If the stay is 2 weeks or shorter, we ask that you bring a smaller bag or a container with food.

We also ask that you do not bring food bowls or food scoops. We use stainless steel bowls and have plenty to go around, including raised feeders and slow feeders. If you would like to bring a bed, you are welcome to do so. Please label all items with your pets name.

If you do bring a bed or blanket and we notice your dog tearing the item up, it will be removed and either sent home or thrown away depending on it’s condition. Please note that your dog may destroy any item left in their kennel so please do not send large/expensive beds (Beds with removable, washable covers are preferred in case of messes). We can provide a cot in your dog’s kennel and have blankets available for your dog to use if you want them to have one.

Training:

All training requires a consultation beforehand to assess the dog and come up with a plan that works for everyone. Consultations must be done prior to any training session.

We will not accept any Boot Camp without a proper consultation and a direct plan for the end goal of training.

Personal training sessions are charged by the hour. There is a travel fee if the training session is more than 30 minutes (one way) from our kennel facility.

 Long term/open ended boarding:

We do offer long term/open ended boarding when space is available.

For long term or open ended boarding reservations, the first week is due at drop off and a card is required to be placed on file. The card will be charged every 7 days until picked up. If the card on file is unable to be charged, Colonial Canine will contact the owner to rectify the situation. Owner has 3 business days to make payment or pick up their dog. After 3 business days with no communication from owner or emergency contact, the dog may be considered abandoned by law and we will be required to surrender the dog to the local SPCA.

As part of our new policy, beginning January 2025 we are offering an enrichment menu for our boarders. Each boarder receives one free enrichment item for every 3 consecutive nights boarded. Extra items are available for purchase. We will have owners choose menu items at drop off or before.

This is a sample menu. A finalized menu will be available January 1, 2025 when we begin offering this service officially.
